The surgery mask doesn't offer protection in front of air-supported particles. Up to 25% of particles can go through the facemask and reach the respiratory system. Smoke evacuators were developed to protect patients and operating teams from airborne infections.
Ablative laser surgery produce dust and smoke which transmit in a vapour composed of particles between 0,1 and 10 µm in size. Laser Generated Airborne Contaminants (LGACs) is a term used to describe the risk connected to these vapours that may carry microorganisms like bacteria, viruses and fungi.
Smoke evacuator is a guarantee for:
- Aspiration of the vapour generated by the laser, thus preventing patient and operating team from infection;
